City of Boston Nostalgia & Facts
This was sent to me via email. I have no idea who the author is. If you do, please let me know so I can give them credit. if you are living elsewhere and you are from Boston, then this is sure to give you some fun reminders.
North, South, East, West, Boston Style
The geographical center of Boston is in Roxbury. Due north of the center we find the South End. This is not to be confused with South Boston which lies directly east from the South End. North of the South End is East Boston and southwest of East Boston is the North End.
Harvard Bridge Why It Was Not Named The MIT Bridge

The bridge connecting Boston and Cambridge via Massachusetts Avenue is commonly known as the Harvard Bridge . When it was built, the state offered to name the bridge for the Cambridge school that could present the best claim for the honor. Harvard submitted an essay detailing its contributions to education in America, concluding that it deserved the honor of having a bridge leading into Cambridge named for the institution. MIT did a structural analysis of the bridge and found it so full of defects that they agreed that it should be named for Harvard.
Information on Boston and the Surrounding Areas
There is no school on School Street, no court on Court Street, no dock on Dock Square, and no water on Water Street. Back Bay

Boston streets are in alphabetical awddah: Arlington, Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth, etc. So are South Boston streets: A, B, C, D, etc.
If the streets are named after trees (e.g. Walnut, Chestnut, Cedar), you are on Beacon Hill. If they are named after poets, you are in Wellesley. Massachusetts Avenue is Mass Ave. Commonwealth Avenue is Comm Ave. South Boston is Southie. The South End is the South End. East Boston is Eastie. The North End is east of the former West End. The West End and Scully Square are no more; a guy named Rappaport got rid of them one night. Roxbury is The Burree, Jamaica Plain is J.P.

I received an email thread, that contained 41 Lessons Life Taught me. Before I give you the 41 lessons, I want to include what information I have on who orginally wrote this. if anyone has more information please comment. I would like to make sure the proper credit is given.
Written By: Regina Brett, 90 years old in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio. (The Plain Dealer is Cleveland Ohios Largest Newspaper.) "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 41 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:"
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. 8. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. 9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. 11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 12. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.. 13. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.. 14. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful. 15. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. 16. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 17. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. 18. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. 19. Over-prepare, then go with the flow. 20. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple. 21.. The most important sex organ is the brain. 22. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. 23. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?" 24. Always choose life. 25. Forgive everyone everything. 26. What other people think of you is none of your business. 27. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time. 28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 29. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 30. Believe in miracles.
31. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
32. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young. 33. Your children get only one childhood. 34. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. 35. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. 36. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back. 37. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. 38. The best is yet to come. 39. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. 40. Yield. 41. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

This July 4th I was able to be in Washington DC for the festivities. Being from Boston, which is a city that celebrates July 4th in a big way, I was not sure if anything would ever top a celebration like the ones I have experienced growing up. Being in our nations capital during July 4th was simply amazing. It is something everyone in the United States should put in their Bucket List and do before they die.
I started off July 3rd taking the time to see all the national monuments. It was a perfect day to see them. The weather was hot but not too hot. The words “Freedom is not free” still echo in my mind. As Americans we enjoy a level of freedom that is unheard of in a good part of the world. As I walked through the any monuments, The Korean War, World War II Monument to the Vietnam memorial I can still see the words “Freedom is not Free” ring in my head.

As I listened the man tell the story of the Vietnam memorial and what happened to get it built, I was taken away. I remember as kid seeing the war on the TV. I remember the body count. I remember how close my older brother came to going. This was a war that tore the united states in two.
So when it was decided to build the Vietnam memorial great steps were taken to take controversy out of it. None of the judges were Vietnam Vets. The judges had to do a blind selection. Great steps were taken to avoid any controversy yet what did we get huge controversy. The judges all settled in the same design. It was by Maya Yimg Lin born of Chinese descent. Her parents fled china in 1949 when Mao-Tse-tung took control of China. The idea of a person of Chinese descent designing the Memorial did not go down well with many vets. Even though her design was chosen, it had to be defended. She had to go to congress herself and defend her design to get it built.
The names are presented in chronological order starting in the middle. So that the last soldier in the war meets the first soldier. It’s in black granite so that you see your own reflection when looking at the wall. I could go on and on. Suffice to say Freedom is not free.
On July 4th, we went to the opening ceremony. Which starts with a reading of the Declaration of Independence. It was a perfect way to start my July 4th. The Ceremony took place outside the home of the Declaration of Independence at The National Archives. We then stayed for the parade. What really struck me in the parade was how diverse a group we are. A comment that was made during the presentation was how when you become an American Citizen you are immediately granted the same rights and privileges of every American citizen. Except for being president of the United States, there is no limit. Only a natural born citizen can become president.

We took a stop at the Whitehouse. Our timing was perfect we were there when President Obama and family were returning. We also spent some time in the many National Museums, We ended the day seeing the fireworks they were the best fireworks I have ever seen.

The next day, my friend who serves in the Army gave us a tour of the Pentagon. It was great trip. It made me feel proud to be an American. Yet the words Freedom is not free keeps echoing in my head.

Someone sent me a Youtube Video Cip in the office that caught my attention. It featured a real-life crime fighter. A man who walks the street in a mask and cape trying to help others....
Cincinnati's Masked Super Hero With the recent release of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Movie launch the timing of this was just too good to pass up. As I did some more research the story kept getting better and better. I always knew if there were real superheros they would come in many shapes and sizes. Well this is a registry on the Internet where they can register themself. Its also a place were you can request help from a real superhero. World Superhero Registry Next time your database is down I would suggest you call the Hero's at Ntirety. Next Time you need a man/woman who walks the street in a mask and cape trying to help others put your request in at the World Superhero Registry

Lets face it, when you need to go the bathroom and can't find a toilet its a big problem. I was in London last week near Primark. Primark in London is the busiest clothing store I have ever seen. I felt like I had run the gauntlet when I went in the door to see if they had a bathroom or should I say Water Closet. Well I could have really used this next website.
A place to find and record bathrooms anywhere in the world.
Sitorsquat

This could go down as one of the greatest uses of a database anywhere. Next to the Speed Trap Database I wrote about on my blog.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poore st) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20."Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 ( 25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man," but he got $10!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!"
"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier. I dont know who the author of this is, but it sure as heck makes sense to me.

In the Ntirety Office a bunch of us were talking, when someone brought up this YouTube Video they had seen of an African Safari at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
You have to see this to belive it. To put this in perspective, over 41 Million people have already seen this footage. Over 95 thousand people have given it a 5 star rating.
