I received an email thread, that contained 41 Lessons Life Taught me. Before I give you the 41 lessons, I want to include what information I have on who orginally wrote this. if anyone has more information please comment. I would like to make sure the proper credit is given.

Written By: Regina Brett, 90 years old in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio. (The Plain Dealer is Cleveland Ohios Largest Newspaper.) "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 41 lessons   life taught me. It is the most requested  column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:"

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your    friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
 5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
 8. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
 9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it..
13. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind..
14. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
15. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
16. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
17. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
18. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
19. Over-prepare, then go with the flow.
20. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
21.. The most important sex organ is the brain.
22. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
23. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?"
24. Always choose life.
25. Forgive everyone everything.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.
27. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
30. Believe in miracles.

31. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

32. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
33. Your children get only one childhood.
34. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
35. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
36. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
37. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
38. The best is yet to come.
39. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
40. Yield.
41. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

NBC's fall season TV lineup includes "Outsourced"

From the write Robert Borden (The Drew Cary Show) comes NBC’s newest TV show “Outsourced”.  This is a show about a Mid America Novelties company that is outsourced to India. This company sells products like whoopee cushions, foam fingers, and wallets made of bacon. Yes, this is the stuff upon which the American ways of life is built, but try explaining that to someone who lives on the other side of the world.

Well Todd Dempsy shows up to work his first day only to find out his department has been outsourced to India. That he is being sent to India to run the call center or be out of work himself. Then the fun begins.

Attached is a video preview of the show…

I am glad to see a show like this. Sometimes we are so politically correct in this country it makes me sick.  With so much being sent offshore, there are plenty of stories good and bad to go around. This is a part of our way of life. In some ways the selfish side of me loves this show. Being the CEO of Ntirety, inc that is 100% U.S. based who competes with most of my competitors who are offshore. I see this show as being good for Ntirety's  business.

I have blogged quite a bit about the dangers of taking such a valuable part of your business the database support and shipping it offshore.  Here are a few of my favorites blogs that illustrate the dangers of this.

Fifth Undersea Cable Cut ! ! !

I am Sorry All Lines to India Are Busy Right Now, Please Call Back Later! !

Does this sound Familar, it should A fifth cable has been cut severly impacting Internet capabilty to India and the Middle East.

I can hear what my off-shore competitors are saying right now "Yes I Know this has been going on for a very long time, but don’t worry. Our U.S. Based team is well equipped to handle the workload."

I know there are only 5 of us in the U.S. and 100 in India. But really we have you covered, really we do. Those 5 Database Administrators in the U.S. all wear red capes like superman and are capable of handling anything that comes along.

Internet Outage Hits India, Middle East Again!!!!!!

I am Sorry All Lines to India Are Busy Right Now, Please Call Back Later ! !

If this is a database emergency, please call back later when service is resumed

When you are a U.S. based operation like Ntirety, this is the stuff dreams are made of. I could not have made this up if I wanted to.

To hear that yet another line that supplies Internet connections to the Middle East and India has been cut. Severely impacting the ability of those off shore teams to communicate with the rest of the world.

Undersea Cables Cut Effects Internet Europe, Middle East And Asia

Undersea Cables Cut Effects Internet Europe, Middle East And Asia

Once again undersea cables have been cut. 3 out of 4 cables have been cut.  This will effect Internet and phones all though Europe, Middle East & Asia. If the 4th cable gets cut this could be a total blackout.  A total black out. This has happened quite a few times before. Here are some blogs I did the last time this happened….

Are You Sure You Want To Offshore Your DBA Support?

Are You Sure You Want To Offshore Your DBA Support?

Without your database functioning in today’s information world, you are out of business. The information stored in your databases is one of the most important business assets you have.  I am amazed at how many times people tell me that database administration is a commodity and should go out to the cheapest bidder. I would not be so quick to hand over one of my most valuable business assets to the cheapest bidder.

Enough of my soapbox. Its my opinion that you would be better served having your Database Administration Augmented by a team based in the U.S. That unlike application development, when your database goes down you are out of business. Always take the time to research the vendor that will support your database very carefully. We have a few great whitepaper's I would suggest you look at.

Cost-Effective Database Administration Without Compromising Service Quality

Effectively managing databases and business applications has been a problem for more than 20 years. In the past two decades, we have seen a proliferation of business applications that leverage information from business databases. Even with the current state of the economy, we will continue to see aggressive growth of business applications that depend on the database.

Cost-Effective Database Administration Without Compromising Service Quality

Choosing A Remote DBA Instead of a Full-Time Consultant

Databases keeping getting bigger and bigger. Database Technology keeps getting more and more complex. Many companies struggle with these issue. Many times this requires you to reach outside your organization for extra help. I recently wrote a white paper on Choosing a remote DBA instead of a full time consultant.

Here is the abstract for the white paper:

Organizations that use SQL Server and / or Oracle occasionally need advanced skills to create, support, and adapt their databases. Traditionally, firms would seek consultants or temporary contracts as a means to address these needs. Now, organizations have another choice, Remote Database Administrators - database pros that can remotely work on solving difficult database issues of structure, scale, programming, and security. This white paper from (company) shows why remote database administration may be more cost effective and efficient than traditional methods. The paper also has a checklist for you to determine whether remote database administration is right for you.

If this sounds of interest to you follow the link to get a copy.

Enough of my soapbox. Its my opinion that you would be better served having your Database Administration Augmented by a team based 100% in the U.S. That unlike application development, when your database goes down you are out of business.
