Oracle software is not supported by Oracle in a VMware environment. You would be putting the business at risk. The only way to virtualise Oracle is using Oracles OVM3. Therefore I cant see how demand to virtualise Oracle on VMware is inceeasing, if anything it is decreasing.

Fact: Oracle Official Support Policy Metalink Note 249212.1 States “they will support Oracle Databases, Applications & Middleware virtualized on VMware  
In terms of Oracle VM versus VMware. No contest. There is a reason VMware has over 80% Marketshare
